iPhone 11 vs iPhone 12 for wholesale: which moves faster in Indonesia?
If you stock used iPhones in Indonesia, this is the decision that sets your whole month: how many 11s, how many 12s. Here is how the two models actually behave on a wholesale pallet, based on how our buyers in Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan split their orders.
The short answer
Grade C iPhone 11 is the volume king. iPhone 12 Grade AB is the margin king. In a 100-piece first order, most of our Indonesian buyers take 60–70 pieces of 11 and 30–40 pieces of 12. Almost nobody takes only 12s on the first order.
Side by side
| iPhone 11 | iPhone 12 | |
|---|---|---|
| Price band (FOB HK) | Entry level | One tier above |
| Screen | 6.1" LCD | 6.1" OLED |
| Chip | A13 | A14 |
| 5G | No | Yes |
| Battery on used stock | Usually 82–89% | Usually 84–90% |
| Repair parts availability | Best in class | Very good |
| Resale speed | Fastest | Fast |
| Buyer complaint rate | Lowest | Low |
Why the iPhone 11 still carries volume
Three reasons, in order of importance:
- Repair economics. Every repair shop in Indonesia knows the 11. Screens, batteries and charging flexes are cheap and everywhere. A phone that is cheap to fix is a phone a retailer is willing to hold.
- Battery anxiety is lower. On a used 11, 85% battery health is normal and accepted. On a 12, buyers expect 88%+. Same battery, different expectation — and expectations drive returns.
- Price point. The 11 sits in the band where a small shop can sell five units a week without blocking cash. The 12 blocks more capital per unit.
Why the iPhone 12 earns more per unit
The 12 is where the upgrade story still works: OLED, flat edges, 5G. 5G coverage in Jakarta and Surabaya is real now, and it closes sales in the mid tier. A Grade AB 12 sells to a customer who wants "a phone that looks new" — and that customer pays more margin than the customer hunting for the cheapest working iPhone.
The trap: don't buy 12s in Grade C for Indonesia. A Grade C 12 has cracked back glass and a premium frame, so the repair cost eats the margin the 12 is supposed to give you. In Grade C, the 11 wins every time. In Grade AB, the 12 wins.
What to order, by business type
| Your business | Suggested split (per 100 pcs) |
|---|---|
| Market stall / small retailer | 80 × iPhone 11 Grade C, 20 × 11 Grade AB |
| Retail shop with display counter | 50 × 11 Grade C, 30 × 12 Grade AB, 20 × 11 Grade AB |
| Online reseller (Tokopedia/Shopee) | 40 × 11 Grade C, 40 × 12 Grade AB, 20 × 13 Grade AB |
| Repair shop that also resells | 70 × 11 mixed, 30 × 12 Grade C for parts-and-resale |
Model mix is not the only variable
Two more things decide whether a pallet sells:
- Grade accuracy. If your Grade C arrives with screens that are scratched rather than intact, your return rate destroys the margin. Ask your supplier to define each grade in physical facts, not adjectives. Our grading definitions are here.
- Battery health disclosure. Ask for the recorded battery health per unit, not an average. How to check it on a bulk order.
How we ship this mix
Our current stock runs more than 500 units per model across iPhone 11–17, so a mixed pallet is normal for us, not a special request. MOQ is 50 pcs per model and grade, FOB Hong Kong, USD. We dispatch within 24 hours with a tracking number — UPS, FedEx, or your nominated forwarder — and we do not promise an arrival date, because transit is not ours to promise.
